How Smart Do You Need to be to Pivot into Cybersecurity?

I have an above average IQ and unfortunately genetics isn’t something we have control over. I’m not a genius like Edward Snowden (politics aside the guy’s clearly brilliant). Conversely I’m not stupid like a Homer Simpson type character.

But there are things that you can control like your time management skills, your ability to focus (see my review on the focus tool I use), your ability to bounce back from setbacks, and your drive to get better everyday. Even as I type this, I’m thinking about buying a new tool to listen to audiobooks as I spend roughly 4–5 hours driving to work and that’s time that can be spent studying up on cybersecurity topics. My current MP3 player requires a multiple step process to download files and I’m just running short on time these days.

I know I’m very early in my quest to pivot into IT (this is just my 2nd month) but I’m very confident I’ll hit my goal to make the pivot by June 2025. Either that or I’ll publicly fail. At that point I’ll just try again with another field. Being a warehouse associate isn’t something I want to do forever.
